The University of Science and Technology of Masuku was created in 1986 in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 7/85 and by the transfer, from Libreville to Franceville, of the Faculty of Sciences, of the National Higher School of Engineers of Libreville (ENSIL), now Masuku Polytechnic School (EPM). It was financed by the Gabonese Investment Fund with assistance from the Saudi Development Fund, the Islamic Development Bank and the French Republic.

The University of Lubumbashi (French: Université de Lubumbashi), also known by the acronym UNILU, is one of the largest universities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The University of Kisangani (UNIKIS) is located in the city of Kisangani in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It was founded in 1963 by Protestant missionaries as the Free University of the Congo (Université libre du Congo, ULC). The University was transformed into part of the National University of Zaire in 1971, and in 1981 it was separated from that National University, along with the University of Kinshasa and the University of Lubumbashi, assuming its present identity as the University of Kisangani. Its president is Professor Dr. Toengaho Lokundo.
