Advocacy and Influence
FAWOVC serves as a powerful collective voice, championing gender-responsive training and systemic policy shifts within Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). By uniting a critical mass of over 120+ members including current and former Vice Chancellors and Deputy Vice Chancellors, we leverage our collective influence to ensure women’s leadership is at the heart of academic governance.
Our Advocacy Toolkit and Global Alignment
We don’t work in isolation; our advocacy is rooted in internationally recognized standards and strategic collaborations. We utilize and align with the frameworks of:
- The African Union (AU): Advancing Agenda 2063 by ensuring women lead the continent’s intellectual and economic transformation.
- National Education Authorities: Partnering with Ministries of Education and government bodies across our member nations to influence national higher education strategies and gender-equity policies.
- UNESCO and UN Women: Aligning institutional reforms with global benchmarks for gender equality in education and leadership.
- Mastercard Foundation: Transformative initiatives like the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program to expand across and leadership pathways for marginalized young women.
- EROWA: Leveraging regional research and educational networks to strengthen our evidence-based advocacy.
The Annual High-Level Symposium
The cornerstone of our advocacy is our Annual High-Level Symposium. We are the steady advocates ensuring that the transformation of African Higher Education is not just a goal, but a continuous, annual priority.
This recurring platform allows us to: - Bridge the gender equity gap by translating international standards into local institutional practices every year.
- Track Progress to ensure that African HEIs are consistently meeting global benchmarks for equity and inclusion.
- Maintain Momentum thus by provide a regular forum for our 120+ leaders to synchronize their advocacy efforts and share evidence-based results from EROWA and other research networks.
