Description

Established in 1994 as the Institute of Higher Education, by Hon Prof. David Richard Namwandi, the university was officially launched as the first private university in Namibia on 26th October 2002 by the then state president of the Republic of Namibia, His Excellency Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma . From humble beginnings with only one student, IUM has since grown into one of the top universities in Namibia, Today, IUM has a student population of more than 19 200 students from all over Namibia, African countries, and beyond.

The university is fully accredited by the Namibia Qualifications Authority and the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).

Description

The University of Livingstonia is a private owned institution by the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia. It started in 2003 in fulfilment of Rev. Dr Robert Laws’ dream to establish an institution of higher learning. It is started at the place where Dr Laws founded the Overtoun Institute, which was known at the time as the ‘Greatest Achievement’ in Central Africa, specifically in relation to the offering of quality education and other social services.

The first Campus of University of Livingstonia is occupying the same buildings of Overtuon Institute at Khondowe. The place was characterized by these facilities, such as the church, schools, hospitals, medical school, houses, pipe water and first grid electricity in Central Africa. The schools that were built catered for students from different parts of the country, and neighbouring countries, such as Zambia and Tanzania.

Description

The Malawi Adventist University was established by an action of the Executive Committee of the Malawi Union Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. As early as 1996, the action was taken to upgrade what was the Lakeview Seminary to a Junior College. It was envisaged to offer four year degree programmes of an already existing University. At that time the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton was the best candidate. In 1999 the Malawi Union Mission agreed to run the four year degree programmes. In January 2000 the institution was opened as Malawi Adventist College. In the middle of 2006, the Malawi Union Officers, opened new negotiations with the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton for affiliation purposes.

By May 2007 the negotiations had reached a remarkable stage leading to the signing of the Affiliation agreement between that University and the Malawi Adventist College on 27 May 2007. Later the Institution developed from a Junior College to an affiliated University. These developments included Malamulo College of Health Sciences as a constituent college of the new University. For a long time, Malamulo College of Health Science had been offering certificate and Diploma programmes in Nursing and Midwifery, Lab Technology and Clinical Medicine. As soon as the college became part of the University, the process of developing degree programmes in the three fields of study was enhanced

Description

The Catholic University of Malawi is an accredited institution of higher learning established by the Episcopal Conference of Malawi on October 16, 2004. The University started admitting students in 2006 and was officially opened on 28th October, 2006 by the late President Bingu wa Mutharika. It has seven faculties, namely Commerce, Education, Law, Nursing and Midwifery, Science, Social Sciences and Theology. Since its establishment, the University has grown its student body from 129 in 2006 to 4000-plus in 2020. The Catholic University has held nineteen congregations, with over 2000 graduates joining the industry in Malawi and beyond. The University of Malawi has an affiliation agreement with the Inter Congregational Institute (Balaka), St. Anthony Major Seminary, and St Peter’s Major Seminary (Zomba).

African Bible Univiserty in Uganda is the fulfilled vision of life-changing Christian leaders Rev. Dr. Jack W. Chinchen and Mrs. Nell Chinchen. Their dream of bringing transformation to Africa became a reality in 1976 when the African Bible College was established. Read more about ABC's past and legacy here.

The founding of ABC's first campus demonstrated Christian faith and God's handiwork. Unfortunately, after a few years, the College was formally shut down in 1992 as a result of the Liberian civil war, which completely devastated the ABC site. The campus was rebuilt and reopened as ABC University sixteen years later. Three Christian universities are now run by the African Bible College Ministry (Liberia, Malawi, and Uganda).
